Description
Of Russian origin :Kvass is one of the eldest national drinks of Russia.
It is a fermented drink made from black rye or rye bread. It contains up to 1,2% of alcohol though is not considered as alcoholic beverage. That is why even children are permitted to consume it. It is also used as a major ingredient of summertime soup known as okroshka. The origin of kvas goes back five centuries to the start of beer production. In Eastern Europe it has been a common drink affordable by all strata of society . The word kvas is from the word "kvasit" which means to ferment, to make sour.
In warm summer kvas is a proper drink to slake your thirst in your Moscow city break.
Nutritional properties
While the production process is similar to beer making, kvas has very low alcohol content and it is considered a non-alcoholic drink. The main ingredient of true kvas is rye bread, and the drink can contain unfiltered yeast in it. Kvas has a high content of vitamin B, it is considered to be a good appetizer and healthy source of energy. The drink is recommended for sportsmen who are trying to increase their muscle weight. In 1913 Russian bacteriologists proved that kvas is a germicide by showing that typhus bacteria die in the drink.
Because fermentation is required, it will take you 24 hours to make kvass.

Composition of set:
kvass mash concentrate - 120 g; Dry yeast - 6 g.
Nutrition 100 grams of product contain:
Protein - 3.5 g, carbohydrates - 65 g. Energy value - 277.0 kcal.
Method for preparing kvass:
Pour into a clean jar 1 liter of boiled water t = 35°C. Add kvass wort from 1 sachet and 150 grams of sugar. All mix. Add yet 2 liter of boiled water t = 20 - 30°C.
Carefully pour into the jar a yeast of 1 sachet.
Сover the jar with a clean towel.
Put in a warm place for 24 hours.
Tips for Making and Serving Kvass :
1. The water used for kvass must be soft.
2. To improve the taste, you can add the raisins in the preparation of kvass.
3. Kvass is best served chilled in hot weather.
